Privacy notice

Last updated:

This notice explains what personal data Rascotic Studios ("we", "us") handles when you visit rascoticstudios.com or email us, why, and what your rights are under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Who is responsible for your data

The controller is Rascotic Studios, the independent game studio that operates this site. Contact: info@rascoticstudios.com. Further identifying details are on our imprint page.

What we collect

1. When you email us

If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, the content of your message and anything you attach. We only use this to reply and to deal with what you asked about (for example press, partnership or playtest requests, or a request to be told when our Steam page goes live).

2. When you visit the website

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical data about each request, such as your IP address, your browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. We do not use this to identify you.

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. A small script reads basic, non-identifying information from your browser (such as page load timing and screen size) to produce aggregated statistics, such as how many visits a page received and from which countries. It does not set cookies or use local storage. See our cookie notice.

The site has no contact forms, no accounts, no advertising and no social media trackers. We do not sell personal data.

Why we use it and our lawful basis

  • Replying to your email: our legitimate interests in answering enquiries and running the studio (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). Where your email is about entering into an agreement with us, such as a playtest or a business arrangement, the basis is taking steps at your request before entering into a contract (Article 6(1)(b)).
  • Hosting, security and statistics: our legitimate interests in keeping the site available and secure and in understanding, in aggregate, how it is used (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • Telling you when our Steam page goes live, if you asked us to: your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR). You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing info@rascoticstudios.com; this does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it.

How long we keep it

  • Emails: for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry, and then for no longer than 24 months after our last exchange, unless we need to keep it longer for a legal reason. If you asked to be told when our Steam page goes live, we keep your address until we have sent that one message or until you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first.
  • Request logs and analytics: these are kept by Cloudflare for the periods set out in Cloudflare's own documentation and privacy policy. Web Analytics figures are aggregated.

Who we share it with

We use these service providers, who process data on our behalf under data processing terms:

  • Cloudflare, Inc.: website hosting, security and Web Analytics.
  • Google (Google Workspace, Google Ireland Limited): email hosting, which stores the messages you send us.

We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

International transfers

Cloudflare operates a global network, so data about your visit may be processed outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States. Where this happens, the transfer is covered by safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, as described in Cloudflare's data processing terms.

Our email provider, Google, may also store messages outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States; that transfer is covered by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Google's data processing terms.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you (access);
  • ask us to correct data that is wrong (rectification);
  • ask us to delete your data (erasure);
  • ask us to limit how we use your data (restriction);
  • object to our use of your data where we rely on legitimate interests;
  • receive data you gave us in a portable format, where that applies;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.

Your right to object: where we rely on legitimate interests, you can object at any time, and you can always tell us to stop sending you any update you asked for.

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing.

To use any of these rights, email info@rascoticstudios.com. We will reply within one month. There is normally no charge.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please email info@rascoticstudios.com. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you the outcome without undue delay.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK supervisory authority: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113.

Children

This website is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us for you. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it. Our playtests are open only to people aged 18 or over.

Cookies

We do not set cookies. See our cookie notice for the strictly necessary security cookies that Cloudflare may set.

We will update this notice when our practices change, and change the date at the top of the page. Significant changes will also be mentioned on the news page.
